に徹（てつ）して温熱（おんねつ）を生（しよう）するといへると又｜物（ふつ）
中最（ちうもつとも）火に近きものは硫黄（いおう）にしくもの
なしゆへに水その上をすくれは温泉と
なるといへるは既（すで）に一層（いつそう）【左に「ひとゑ」】をへだつるに似
たりおしひかな白（はく）璧（へき）【左に「たま」】の微瑕瑜（びかゆ）【左に「すこしのきすよき玉」】を害（かい）す

一 太極動（たいきよくうこい）て陽（やう）を生し静（しつ）かにして陰（いん）を生す

現代語訳
に徹して温熱を生するといえると、また「物の中で最も火に近いものは硫黄に及ぶものはない。ゆえに水がその上を通過すれば温泉となる」と言っているのは、既に一層【ひとえ】を隔てているように思われる。惜しいかな、白璧【白い玉】の微瑕【わずかな傷】は、その玉の良さを損なうほどではないとはいえ、終に人をして遺憾【残念】なからしめることはできない。故に今、実にこの説を表章【明らかに示し】し、またこれを取捨折衷して愚見を述べることは以下の通りである。
一、太極が動いて陽を生じ、静かにして陰を生じる。陰気は寒をなし、寒気は水を生じる。陽気は熱をなし、熱気は火を生じる。しかうして火は本来形質【かたち】がない。散じればただ陽の気であり、集まればすなわち火の質【かたち】をなす。古人は「火は五行の一つであり、気はあって質はなく、その気は天に巡り、地に蔵れ、人に用いられる」と言っている。故に火の気が散じて天地に

What a pity that the minor flaw in a white jade does not damage the quality of the jade itself, yet in the end it cannot but leave the reader with some lingering regret. Therefore, I shall now truly expound upon this theory, and taking what is useful and discarding what is not, present my humble views through a balanced synthesis, as follows:
First: When the Supreme Ultimate (Taiji) moves, it generates Yang; when it is still, it generates Yin. Yin qi produces cold, and cold qi generates water. Yang qi produces heat, and heat qi generates fire. Now, fire fundamentally has no fixed form or substance. When dispersed, it is simply the qi of Yang; when gathered, it takes on the substance of fire. The ancients said: "Fire is one of the Five Elements; it has qi but no substance — its qi circulates in Heaven, is stored in the Earth, and is put to use by humanity."
