小紋のつぶ霰（あられ）。半袖のもみじゆばん。いつれ紋（もん）なき

第一 侠風俗（侠客風のスタイル）
両国元柳橋のあたりに、萩の枝で作った折戸が風情がある川猪庵と号する者がいた。ここに入ってくる一人の客は、露時雨という粋な男である。髪は中程度に剃り上げ、額は大きく抜き上げて、上には生絹の羽織を着ている。着物は茶返し、下には小紋のつぶ霰模様。半袖の紅葉襦袢。いずれも紋のない鯊の襟。黒繻子の帯を締め、いさな小紋の羽織を着ている。

Chapter 1: Gallant Style
Near Ryogoku Moto-Yanagibashi, there lived one who called himself Kawaian, with a tasteful folding gate made of bush clover branches. A customer entering here is an elegant man called Roshigure. His hair is moderately shaved in the middle with a protruding topknot, his forehead broadly shaved back, wearing a raw silk haori on top. His kimono is tea-colored, underneath small-patterned with hailstone design. A half-sleeved autumn maple juban. All with collar of unpatterned shark skin. He wears a black satin obi and a small-patterned haori.
