万年蕈《割書：マンネンゴケ・イワイタケ／シラコケ》

楮（こうぞ）の朽木の上に生じる。霊芝に似ているが柄（え）がなく、木耳（サルノコシカケ）に似ているが硬くはない。薄く柔らかく、数百層を成す。黒色のものと赤色のものとがある。

後（国）の猪木の朽枝に生じたもの。三九（？）陽十八日、夏に採集。写生。

黄芝（おうし）
これはすなわち霊芝の初期（幼い）のものである。苗（芽生え）が多くあるものを「黄芝」という。霊芝は生え始めの頃から、黒いものや紅いものがある。紫芝（しし）はまさにこれ（その一種）である。その色には、黄・紅・紫・緑・白の五種がある。

Grows on the rotting wood of paper mulberry (*kōzo*). It resembles *Reishi* (霊芝) but has no stalk; it resembles wood-ear fungus (*Saru no Koshikake*, shelf fungus) but is not hard. It is thin and soft, forming several hundred layers. There are black-coloured and red-coloured varieties.

Grown on a rotting branch from Inoki in the [Higo?] province. Collected on the eighteenth day of the [third-ninth? / Sanku?] yang [month], in summer. Drawn from life.

*Kōshi* (黄芝, "Yellow Reishi")
This is the young, early-stage form of *Reishi* (霊芝). When seedlings/sprouts are numerous, [the fungus] is called "*Kōshi*" (Yellow Reishi). From the very early stages of *Reishi* growth, there are black and red varieties. *Shishi* (紫芝, Purple Reishi) is precisely one of these. In terms of colour, there are five varieties: yellow, red/crimson, purple, green, and white.
