加護し給ふゆへ年毎に豊年にて万民
悦ひを成￣スといへ共風雨時を得ず寒暖（カンダン）次￣テヲ
失へは作物に害を成￣ス事多し別而上野の神々
は奢り強く白雲山には博奕をこのまれ
火防守護を怠り給ふゆへ近年諸々に出火
多シ護たれよと申さるゝ白雲山赤面し
鼻いかゝして申され候而は左ないわれぞ猛（タチ）
力雄（カラヒ）貴公には役たいもなき九頭竜様と云而
むだ物を匿ひ置近郷の梨子のあたかたきを
せらるゝ其上雪抔も早く降￣テせ我々か国
まて折々迷惑致す慎たれよとのヽしらる
立科権現と申けるは火の守護せらまゝ旁
外のなぐさみに情出て火防を疎略にせらるゝ
ゆへ我境内まで火飛来り我数年秘蔵
して育置し名代のはいまつをやかれめい
惑に存候此末隋分御せい思う頼入と被申けれは

加護しているため、年ごとに豊年となり万民が喜んでいる。しかしながら、風雨が時を得ず、寒暖の順序を失えば作物に害を及ぼすことが多い。とりわけ上野の神々は奢り高ぶっており、白雲山の神は博打を好まれ、火防の守護を怠っておられるため、近年あちこちで火事が多い。慎まれよ」と申されると、白雲山の神は赤面し、鼻をふくらませて申されるには、「さようなことが言われるか。猛々しく力強い、貴公には役にも立たない九頭竜様とやらが、無駄なものを匿い置いて近郷の梨子の実りを妨げておられる。その上、雪なども早く降らせて、我々の国にまで折々迷惑をかけている。慎まれよ」と罵られた。立科権現が申されるには、「火の守護がなおざりになり、他の慰みごとに心が移って火防を疎略にされているため、我が境内にまで火が飛び来たり、私が数年来大切に秘蔵して育てておいた名代のはいまつ（這松）が焼かれてしまい、迷惑千万に存じております。この先はどうぞ十分にご精を出していただきたいとお頼み申します」と申されると、

...they bestow their divine protection, and thus every year brings a good harvest, bringing joy to all people. However, when rain and wind come at inopportune times, and when the order of cold and warmth is disrupted, crops suffer greatly. In particular, the deities of Kōzuke [present-day Gunma Prefecture] are arrogant and self-indulgent, and the deity of Hakuunzan [White Cloud Mountain] is fond of gambling and has been negligent in guarding against fires. This is why fires have been breaking out frequently in various places in recent years. Show some restraint!" At this, the deity of Hakuunzan flushed red and, puffing up with indignation, replied: "How dare you say such things! That Kuzuryū-sama of yours, who is of no use to you despite all his fierce and powerful airs, hides away useless things and interferes with the pear harvests of the surrounding villages. On top of that, he sends early snowfall that causes us trouble in our lands from time to time. You should be the one showing restraint!" The deity of Tateshina Gongen then spoke: "Because fire protection has been neglected and attention has strayed to other amusements, fires have spread even into my sacred precinct, burning the renowned creeping pine trees [haimatsu] that I had carefully nurtured and treasured for many years. I find this most vexing. I humbly request that you apply yourself diligently to your duties from here on."
