仕方がない、皆何事も世間で知られているように、時勢に従って引き延ばしなさいと、さまざまに制止され、無念ながら引き下がられた。旧井権現が申されるには、「我は両国の境に立っているので、どちらの肩も持たないが、上毛の神の申される通り、浅間山は我が近所ゆえ、毎日毎日煙たい目に遭い、甚だ迷惑に存じている」。そしてまた白雲山の博奕のことを申されたが、信濃国にも博奕好きの神々がいると聞くと嘲るような言葉に、近津が口を挟んで「博奕好きとは、きっと八わたや、それとも我がことであろうか。目の前でしないことでも、成道も成り難い」と言った。旧井殿の当てこすりの言葉を破れ頭巾のように耳に掛けると、もってのほかに怒ったので、「いや、それは間違いで、貴方がたのことではなく、他に批判すべき事柄があるのだ」と言うと、「それで他にあるとは誰のことか、はっきり申しなさい」と神とはしに問い詰められ、「ご所望ならば語り申しましょう」と、田の口新
