現代語訳
（上野の神々が言うには）もしそのような事があるならば神司（かみつかさ）に申し断るべきである。総じて信濃の神々は各々の職分のことだけを自慢して、人を蔑にされる。皆々我が国に帰って八百万の神々を神集めに集めて、これほどの数々の罪を言い分けようと、皆々座を立ち、天の八重雲を押し分けてお帰りになられた。

(The deities of Kozuke continued:) "If such matters are to occur, they should be properly reported to the divine authorities. In general, the deities of Shinano do nothing but boast about their own respective duties while treating others with contempt. Let us all return to our own provinces, gather the eight million deities in divine assembly, and adjudicate these many accumulated offenses." With that, all rose from their seats, parted the eight-layered clouds of heaven, and departed for home.
On the Gathering of Tengu at Mount Myogi
Shortly after the deities had departed, Mount Myogi (White Cloud Mountain) harbored great indignation and gathered all the tengu followers of the mountain. Bearing tremendous resentment toward the deities of Shinano, they recounted first and foremost the reckless conduct of Mount Asama, and summoned the tengu of all provinces. After deliberation, they resolved to lodge a formal complaint with the divine authorities to investigate these numerous offenses. They first commanded Taro-bo and Jiro-bo to spread word to the tengu and guhin (long-nosed goblin-monks) of all provinces.
