He brought it home and was greatly delighted, but when he said "one" and shook it, six came up; when he said "six" and threw it, five came up; or three came up instead — not a single number came out as called. So he went back to that man's place to exchange it again, but the man had placed brambles and trifoliate orange all around the four sides of his house, making it impossible to approach. Therefore, thinking, "I'll bring the thing that scoundrel hates and frighten him," he went and bought soybean flour rice cakes and threw them at the man — but the man said "What a feast!" and picked them up one after another as they were thrown and ate them. As a result, it became impossible to take the dice back, and having no other recourse, he gave up on them. From that time on, gambling was passed down (into the human world). "Despite this being the true origin, people say all manner of things because they do not know the facts," he said. Upon hearing this, Sanzakubō said, "As I swing my three-foot staff, I travel throughout all of Japan in an instant. Because I move so quickly I do not know the details, but long ago when I passed through that Hōraizan, by the connection of having received those dice there, the place has since been called 'Moraigadake' (Mount Received)." When he told this story, everyone took up their feather fans once more, saying, "The lineage is thus authentic, and the gambling of our White Cloud Mountain in particular has such a meaningful origin — to say all manner of things about it is..."
