一、文政元寅年（1818年）三月、繰練（訓練・調練）に出精して励んだことにより、御褒美として新身の鑓壱穂（新品の槍一本）を下し置かれた。
一、同年五月十三日、平根山御台場（砲台）の当番であったところ、同日夜中に異国船が御領分（会津藩預かりの相模国沿岸）久里浜沖まで乗り込んできたため、平根山の手番（担当の持ち場）にて、直ちに彼の地に罷り在り（現地にとどまり）、異国船を警固するため出船し、二十一日に異国船が帰帆（引き返した）のを受けて（出船を）仰せ付けられたため、平根山御陣屋へ引き取り、同二十六日に同所を引き払った。

…(continuing from the previous page, regarding the sighting of a foreign vessel off the coast of Awa Province,) he was ordered to stand ready to dispatch vessels in response.
1. In the 3rd month of Bunsei 1 (Tora year, 1818), in recognition of his diligent and devoted efforts at military drills and training (*kurineri*), he was presented with a new spear (*mi no yari, issui*—one new spearhead) as a reward.
2. On the 13th day of the 5th month of the same year, while he was on duty at the Hiraneyama coastal battery (*o-daiba*), a foreign vessel intruded as far as the waters off Kurihama—within the domain's jurisdiction (*go-ryōbun*)—during the night of that same day. Accordingly, from his assigned post at Hiraneyama, he remained on site without delay, deployed vessels to guard against the foreign ship, and on the 21st day, upon being ordered to stand down following the foreign vessel's departure, he withdrew to the Hiraneyama garrison (*o-jinya*) and on the 26th of the same month vacated the post entirely.

3. In the 6th month of the same year, he was informed that the prompt and well-prepared response by all personnel during the previous autumn's sighting of a foreign vessel off the coast of Awa Province (*Bōshū*) would be reported to the lord at a suitable opportunity.
4. On the 9th day of the 7th month of the same year, an urgent report (*chūshin*) arrived stating that a foreign vessel had been sighted off Shirahama in Awa Province (*Bōshū*). As the current year-duty officer (*nenban*) at Hiraneyama, he immediately rushed to the location, and on the 11th day withdrew from his post.
5. In the 3rd month of Bunsei 2 (U year, 1819), since assuming responsibility for coastal defense in Sagami Province (*Sōshū*), foreign vessels had drifted into the area on numerous occasions; during the previous summer, a foreign vessel had entered the waters off the domain's jurisdiction for the first time, whereupon, by means of dispatching vessels… *(continues on the next page)*
