Item: On the same day, geese and ducks caught by the falcons that had been bestowed as a gift arrived the previous day. The castle keeper (ōrusui) Asai Genzaemon (Masayuki) personally delivered the following inquiry document to the duty councillor (goyōban) Honda Nakatsukasa-no-Taifu (Tadayoshi):
Memorandum
Regarding the geese and ducks caught by the falcon bestowed upon Hyōbu-no-Taifu: due to heavy snowfall in the home domain last winter, it was not possible to carry out falconry, and we submitted an inquiry to that effect some time ago. We received your instructions by way of an attached note (tsukegami), which was duly acknowledged at the home domain. However, as the falcon has now made its catches and the weather has not yet turned warm, we respectfully wish to send the birds alive this time and present them as an offering. Hyōbu-no-Taifu has asked that this matter be inquired about once more. Respectfully submitted.

21st day of the 1st month Asai Genzaemon
Item: On the same day, it was reported through written documents submitted by two district magistrates (gōri bugyō) that, in the villages where farmland had been damaged by the floods of the previous autumn, people were dying of starvation: 668 men and women were found in the district under the jurisdiction of Oguri Jirōemon (Yasumasa), and 823 men and women in the district under the jurisdiction of Suzuki Kurōemon (Shigetake).
Item: On the 23rd day of the 1st month, as customary, geese and ducks caught by the bestowed falcons were presented via a messenger.
Item: On the 24th day of the same month: In connection with the desertion (出奔, shuppon) of Okabe Uemon, a member of the Great Guard (ōoban), in the 12th month of the previous year, Kurosaw Yūdayū, a yoriki (mounted retainer) of senior councillor Honda Nuidono (Narishiro), and Inoue Senemon, an okachi (foot soldier), were ordered to conduct an inquiry, as they were Uemon's elder brothers by blood. Departing from the home domain on the 9th, they arrived in Edo on the 21st, and on the 23rd (yesterday) located him in the vicinity of Suzaki Village and told him to accompany them back. However, as he refused and resisted, they abandoned him there. As that land fell within the jurisdiction of the magistrate (daikan) Ina Hanzaemon, (a communication was sent) to Hanzaemon via Abe—
