（前ページより続く）…と記されているが、これらはすべて「下金」と呼ばれるもので、土砂の中に混じっている砂金である。現在はない。また、ウラカワという所に金山の跡がある。これは掘れば出るだろうと思われる。その他、アリモ辺、ラツユ島などにもある。また深山にもあるだろうか。未開の大国であるため、詳細な探索には及び難い。時を得て明らかにすべきである。

**銀山**　古来より銀山の話はない。カワクン山、ユウテツブ山などにある。西蝦夷地は深山が多い。それゆえ奥深い感があるが、私はまだそこへ到達していないため、風説（伝聞）を挙げることは難しい。

**銅山**　東蝦夷地シリベツの奥山にある。箱館近在の山にもある。

**鉄山**　箱館近在の大森村・石崎村などにある。その他、諸所に多くある。

**鉛山**　見市村の春、オボユ山岳が最も優れているという。先年、江指村で掘った時には、一か年に三百箇ほど産出した。その他、赤神村・江枝村などにもある。

**黄銅（真鍮状の金属）**　メツノイヲ・ストロフという島にある。この金属は日本でまだ見られないもので、生まれながらにして金色をした銅であり、真鍮のように柔らかいものだという。赤人（現地に渡った者）が海を渡って、私に詳しく話してくれた。

**余糧（食用土）**　エトロフ島のショツチキャという所にある。蓄えておいて、時々食糧として用い、食事とする。色は白く、餅のようで、味は淡白である。この島へ渡海した時、友船と別れ、米も味噌もなく、草の根を煮てこの土を入れて食事としたところ、非常に軽く食べやすいものであった。

There is also the site of a former gold mine at a place called Urakawa. It is believed that gold would be found if one were to dig there. There are also deposits in the vicinity of Arimo and on Ratsuyu Island, among other places. There may also be deposits deep in the mountains. As this is a vast and undeveloped land, it is difficult to conduct a thorough survey. The matter should be clarified when the opportunity arises.

**Silver Mines**: There have been no reports of silver mines since ancient times. There are deposits at Mount Kawakun and Mount Yutetsubu. Western Ezo has many deep mountain ranges, which gives them an air of mystery, but as I have not yet reached those areas myself, it is difficult to cite even rumors.

**Copper Mines**: There is one in the deep mountains of Shibetsu in Eastern Ezo. There is also one in the mountains near Hakodate.

**Iron Mines**: There are iron deposits in Omori Village and Ishizaki Village near Hakodate, and many other locations throughout the region.

**Lead Mines**: The Obouyu mountain range near Miichi Village in spring is said to be the finest. In a previous year, when digging was conducted at Esashi Village, approximately three hundred units were produced in a single year. There are also deposits in Akagami Village, Eeda Village, and other places.

**Brass-like Metal (Orichalcum/Natural Brass)**: There is such a metal on an island called Metsuno-i-wo and Sutorofu (Iturup). This metal has not yet been seen in Japan; it is a copper that is golden in color from its natural state and is said to be soft like brass. A man who had crossed the sea to those lands came to me and described it in detail.

**Surplus Provisions (Edible Earth/Clay)**: There is such a substance at a place called Shottochikya on Etorofu Island (Iturup). It is stored and used periodically as food. It is white in color, resembling rice cake (*mochi*), and mild in taste. When I crossed to this island and became separated from the companion vessel, left without rice or miso, I boiled plant roots and added this earth to make a meal, and found it remarkably light and easy to eat.
