相場（さうは）五百弐拾八匁を四十四にわれは金壱匁に付
銀拾二匁つつになるこれを金廿五匁にかくれは

相場五百二十八匁を四十四で割ると、金一匁につき銀十二匁ずつになる。これを金二十五匁に掛ければ、銀三百匁と分かる。
初心者はこのように計算するものだが、これは場合によっては合わない（誤差の出る）計算方法である。その証拠を示す。
金七匁四分八厘があり、判金の相場が五百匁替えの時、五百匁を四十四で割ると、金一匁につき銀十一匁三分六厘三毛六糸三忽ずつにあたる。これに手元の金七匁四分八厘を掛けると、
○銀八十四匁九分九厘九毛九糸五忽になる。

このように（途中で割り算を先に行うと）端数が生じて合わない、良くない計算方法である。
金七匁四分八厘があるとき、判金の相場五百匁替えにして、その金に対して銀はいくらになるかと問う場合、
○銀八十五匁になる。
方法：金七匁四分八厘に相場五百匁を掛けると三千七百四十（三七四〇）になる。これを四十四で割ると八十五匁と分かる。これが良い計算方法である。この考え方はあらゆる場合に応用できる。
銀八十五匁があるときに、判金の相場五百匁にして、その銀に対して金はいくらになるかと問う場合、
○金七匁四分八厘になる。

Dividing the exchange rate of 528 monme by 44 gives 12 monme of silver per 1 monme of gold. Multiplying this by 25 monme of gold gives 300 monme of silver.
Beginners calculate in this way, but depending on the situation, this is a calculation method that produces inaccurate results. Here is proof of that.
When one has 7 monme 4 bu 8 rin of gold and the exchange rate for ban-gold is 500 monme, dividing 500 monme by 44 gives 11 monme 3 bu 6 rin 3 mō 6 shi 3 kotsu of silver per 1 monme of gold. Multiplying this by the 7 monme 4 bu 8 rin of gold gives:
○ Silver amounting to 84 monme 9 bu 9 rin 9 mō 9 shi 5 kotsu.

Calculated in this way, a remainder arises (because the division is performed first), making it an unsatisfactory and poor method of calculation.
When one has 7 monme 4 bu 8 rin of gold, and wishes to know how much silver it corresponds to at an exchange rate of 500 monme per ban-gold:
○ It comes to 85 monme of silver.
Method: Multiply 7 monme 4 bu 8 rin of gold by the exchange rate of 500 monme to get 3,740. Dividing this by 44 gives 85 monme. This is the correct method of calculation, and this approach is useful in all manner of situations.
When one has 85 monme of silver, and wishes to know how much gold it corresponds to at a ban-gold exchange rate of 500 monme:
○ It comes to 7 monme 4 bu 8 rin of gold.
