○銭換えは相場で金を割るという
百より内（以下）は四をかけて引く
■ 四貫三百二十四文があるとき、一貫文につき銀十八匁の相場のとき、その銭に対して銀はいくらかと問う場合、
○銀七十七匁八分五厘になる。
解法：百文より内（百文未満）の端数である二十四文に四をかけて（算盤に）加え入れる。まず二十文に「二四の八」として八文を加え入れ、さらに四文に「四四十六」として十六文を加え入れると、四貫三百二十五文になる。これに相場の十八匁をかけると、銀七十七匁八分五厘になるとわかる。

《題：第十二 万利足のこと》
■ 銀の元金百二十四匁を借りたとき、利率が二割五分として、この銀の元利合計はいくらかと問う場合、
○銀百五十五匁になる。
解法：（まず）百五十五匁を右に置き、左に「二五」と置いて、この「二五」の上に十を加えて置くと「十二五」となる。これを百二十四匁にかけると、右の（答えである）銀の額が求まる。
■ 銀の元利合計が百五十五匁あり、利率は二割五分である。右の銀の中から利息（二割五分分）を引いて、元金はいくらかと問う場合、
○元金（本銀）は百二十四匁になる。

for amounts under 100 mon, multiply by 4 and subtract.
■ When one has 4 kanmon 324 mon in coins, and the exchange rate is 18 monme of silver per 1 kanmon, how much silver does this amount of coin correspond to?
**Answer: It equals 77 monme 8 bu 5 rin of silver.**
Method: Take the fractional amount under 100 mon — that is, 24 mon — multiply it by 4, and add it (on the abacus). First, for the 20 mon portion, apply "2×4 = 8" and add 8 mon; then for the 4 mon portion, apply "4×4 = 16" and add 16 mon, giving 4 kanmon 325 mon. Multiplying this by the exchange rate of 18 monme yields 77 monme 8 bu 5 rin of silver.

**Topic 12: On Interest Calculations (万利足のこと)**
■ When one borrows 124 monme of silver as principal, at an interest rate of 25% (2 wari 5 bu), what is the total of principal and interest combined?
**Answer: It equals 155 monme of silver.**
Method: Place 155 monme on the right, and place "25" on the left. Add 10 above this "25" to make it "125." Multiplying this by 124 monme gives the silver amount shown on the right.
■ When the combined principal and interest totals 155 monme of silver, and the interest rate is 25% (2 wari 5 bu), subtract the 25% interest from this amount — what is the principal?
**Answer: The principal (hon-gin) is 124 monme.**
