本米はかりはなにほとそと問（とう）とき
○弐百卅三石六斗四升四合八勺六才といふ

When the freight charges and travel expenses are paid out of the said 18 kan me, how much rice can be purchased?

**Method:** Add the freight charge of 8 monme to the market price of 242 monme, giving 250 monme. Place this on the left. Then place 18 kan me on the right, subtract the travel expenses of 90 monme from this, leaving 17 kan 910 monme. Divide the right-hand figure by the left-hand figure of 250 monme, and you will find the answer to be 716 koku, 4 to.
