[Right Page] Each person takes their place at the feast table, and offerings of five chestnuts and five persimmons each, one sheet of hanabira (flower petal-shaped rice cake or decoration), and one ray (鱏) are presented. After the three-round cup ceremony (御三献) is completed, the daikan-shū (代官衆, deputy officials) manage the proceedings, and the event concludes. (Note: the tōne [刀禰, a lower-ranking shrine servant] serves as attendant.) Everyone then withdraws.  Tonight's feast is provided and managed by the daikan-shū. The sake is supplied on a rotating basis by six individuals assigned to the relevant rice fields under the ōrai-yaku (往来役, a corvée duty related to traffic/passage), who bring six monme of silver as the sake fee. The chestnuts, persimmons, ray, and other items come from within the shrine. Originally, this feast duty belonged to the ryōkan (両官, the negi and hafuri) of Kifune Shrine. As there had been vacancies (闕職) among the negi and hafuri of Kifune over the years, deputy officials had been taking turns performing this duty for some three hundred years. Therefore, since Kanbun 4 (1664), this has continued to be the responsibility of the daikan-shū. [Left Page]     The 9th Day of the 9th Month When the appointed time arrives (the announcement of attendance is made three times at the Hour of the Hare [卯刻, around 6 a.m.]), the shrine officials each proceed to the shrine (in formal court dress, 束帯). They assemble at the Samurai-dokoro (侍所). The hafuri (祝, a senior ritual officiant) arrives at the Chōya (庁屋). (The hand-washing ritual [手水] follows the same procedure as the 4th month.) Holding chrysanthemum cotton (菊綿), one follows along in procession when the divine offerings (神供) begin their advance. Next, the onmyō-dayū (陰陽大夫, a diviner-official) performs a purification (祓) of the divine offerings (at the customary location). Next, the bodies of the shrine officials are purified by the harae. Each shrine official proceeds to take their place before the divine presence. Next, the sacred key (御鍵) is handed to the hafuri. Next, the hafuri rises from his seat and opens the sacred doors. (The shrine officials each prostrate themselves in reverence.) Next, the shrine officials ascend in order of rank, and the chrysanthemum cotton and divine offerings are presented from the left and right sides, completing the offering. Beginning from the most junior (下臈) of the shrine officials, they perform a single bow in turn. The Kataokanegi (片岡禰宜) proceeds directly to a certain shrine (某社), and the shrine priests below him proceed to their respective shrines in order. Next come the divine offerings for the outer sanctuary (外陣) (the gon-negi [権禰宜] presents them, and the gon-hafuri [権祝] acts as the senior officiant). Next, the five officials (五官) recite the norito (祝詞, ritual prayers) (after the Kataoka and tsuchimaturi rites). Next, the ryōkan of Kataoka (片岡), Shingū (新宮), and Wakamiya (若宮) return to their original seats (本座). The gonomi (五宮) rises, bows in reverence at the Norito-ya (祝詞屋), following the same procedures as above. Next, the divine offerings are removed (撤) (first the outer sanctuary's gon-ryōkan [権両官] remove them). Next, the sacred doors are closed. (The decorum of the shrine officials' movements, ascending and descending, follows the customary procedure.) When the rituals before the divine presence are complete, each official conducts a circuit of worship from Wakamiya to Kataoka Shrine, then returns to their seats in the Tsuchiya.
