(The two officials of Kifune and Shingu) ascend and proceed to the Ō-yuka (main floor). The two officials of Kifune and Shingu ascend and attend on the stairs. The shrine officials from Ōta downward take their ranked positions in left-right order at the foot of the stairs (following the same procedure as the Main Shrine). Next, the sacred brooms and wiping cloths are advanced (at this time, the Ujigami-hafuri rises from the seat, performs a bow [yū] sideways toward the Main Shrine, proceeds to the edge of the sliding board [suberi-ita] to receive them, and carries them forward). In the center-front of the Main Shrine, they are handed over to the Sawada-hafuri. The Ujigami-hafuri (bows sideways toward the Main Shrine as before, proceeds by knee-walking [hizamai], and takes the temporary seat). Next, the sudare (bamboo blind) is rolled up. Next, the offering tables are brought out. Next, oil lamps (aburishoku) are brought forward (the two officials on the Ō-yuka alternately illuminate the inner sanctum). Next, the cleaning of the inner sanctum is completed (at this time, the oil lamps are lowered). They proceed to the outer sanctum and systematically wipe and clean everything (the two officials of Nara place items in the spaces of the balustrade). Regarding the advancing of the offering tables (Keiki note) #1: (When the ceremony is performed by order of the Imperial Court, hi-kage-gusa [club moss] and sakaki etc. follow the same procedure as the Main Shrine. However, regarding the two tables, they are washed and purified in the Mono-imi-gawa river, as per the main official's procedure.) Next, the sudare is lowered. Next, the shrine officials, beginning from those of lower rank, each return to their original seats in turn. Next, the Azukari-dayū presents the sacred locks of Kataoka, Shingu, Ōta, Wakamiya, Nara, Sawada, and Ujigami to the respective Hafuri. The Kataoka-negi does not return to their seat but proceeds directly toward a certain shrine. Next, the two officials of the Gon (secondary rank) take their places in the norito-ya (norito recitation hall). All five officials recite norito (ritual prayers) at both shrines (the same applies to the two officials of Kifune). When this is complete, the sacred doors of both shrines are closed, and all retire.

**(Ujigami Shrine)** Regarding the sacred fusuma (door panels) used on two occasions: at the Rinji-sai (Extraordinary Festival), New Year's Day, the Aoi Festival, the Uzue rite, the fifteenth-day Kayu-zue rite, and similar occasions, both officials enter the inner sanctum; at other sacred ceremonies when offerings are presented, one Negi removes the items and one Hafuri accompanies this. Since this ceremony is a very abbreviated form, it is recorded here for reference.
**The Ceremony of Sacred Purification (Misogi) at a Certain Shrine**
First, after the Azukari-dayū has passed over the sacred key, all officials rise from their seats and proceed to a certain shrine. The two officials perform the ten-ku (ritual fasting head) and take their seats at the worship hall. However, the Hafuri, carrying the sacred key directly, advances to the Doi (earthen platform), prostrates once, ascends to the Ō-yuka, prostrates once, places down the ceremonial baton (shaku), removes the wrapping and cover of the sacred lock, fits the key, and opens the sacred door (when the Negi moves his seat while performing the ten-ku and related movements, all prostrate). The Hafuri descends to the Doi. The Negi rises from the seat (the seated bow [za-yū] and footwear bow [kutsu-yū] are as usual), advances to the Doi, stands alongside, prostrates once, ascends to the Ō-yuka, prostrates once (while seated), enters the inner sanctum and prostrates once (prostrating flat while seated). Next, the ten-ku rises from the seat, advances to the Doi, and prostrates once. Next, the two officials roll up the sudare. Next, the ten-ku advances the sacred chest (mi-hitsu). Next, the two officials lower the sudare. First, the ceremonial display items (keibut-su) on both left and right sides are placed by both the Negi-kata and Hafuri-kata into the sacred chest and taken out to the outer sanctum. Next, the two officials take up brooms and sweep the edges and nageshi (long horizontal beams) of the御帳台 (sacred curtained dais) and wipe them. Regarding the offering tables [the text continues on the next section].

**[Right Margin — Written in Red Ink (Addendum of November, Meiji 21 [1888])]**
Recorded and performed in accordance with the Keiki (official record). November, Meiji 21. □□ (illegible). After the Ujigami-hafuri has completed the prostration at the Gon-den (secondary shrine), at the time when the Sawada-hafuri takes the next temporary seat, the passing forward of the Negi-kata's sacred brooms and wiping cloths is announced first. At this time, the Ujigami-hafuri rises from the temporary seat, proceeds to the eastern sliding board (suberi-ita) of the Main Shrine, receives the sacred brooms and wiping cloths from the Shoshi (assigned official), and hands them over to the Sawada-hafuri in the center-front (shōchū) of the Main Shrine. Remaining there [in position], the official sits facing north near the prostration board (o-haiita). When the sweeping is complete, sakaki and hi-kage-gusa (club moss) are passed forward from the Negi-kata, then sakaki and hi-kage-gusa from the Hafuri-kata, after which the Shoshi passes items behind the Ujigami-hafuri, and the Ujigami-hafuri then passes them to the Sawada-hafuri at the center-front of the Main Shrine. Note: when passing through the center-front of the Main Shrine, one performs the passing bow (keika-yū) and proceeds by knee-walking (hizamai).
