**[Right Page]** After wiping and cleaning the left and right sides (of the inner sanctum), the two officials sweep the sacred mats with brooms and complete the cleaning. Next, the sudare (bamboo blind) is rolled up, and the sacred brooms and wiping cloths are brought out to the outer sanctum. The ten-ku (ritual fasting attendant) comes forward and takes them, finishes cleaning both the inner and outer surfaces of the outer sanctum door and the balustrades, then hands them over to the Tone. The ten-ku returns to the seat. Next, the two officials exit the inner sanctum, prostrate once on the Ō-yuka (main floor), then prostrate once more at the Doi (earthen platform). When this is complete, both the Negi and Hafuri return to their seats in the worship hall. Next, after the norito (ritual prayers) are recited, the Hafuri rises from the seat, prostrates once at the Doi, ascends to the Ō-yuka and prostrates once, then closes the sacred door. The ten-ku presents the wrapping paper of the sacred lock (within the sacred chest there is one piece of wrapping paper for the sacred lock; when first placed within at the beginning, this paper is to be set aside nearby). With all of this concluded, all retire. --- After today's rotation of offering ceremonies is completed and the sacred doors are closed, the evening sacred provisions are then prepared and offered. The feast of direct communion (naorai) is held in the administrative hall (Chōya), attended by twenty-one shrine officials, the ten-ku, the Shōjin-gashira (ritual fasting head official), and laborers. --- **[Left Page]** **Eleventh Month, First Day of the Hare — Ainamesai (First Fruits Ceremony)** *(Note: The Imi-ko [ritual abstinence child] and the Shamusho representative attend on this day.)* The designated time is just past the Hour of the Sheep (approximately 2–3 p.m.). The sacred doors are opened, and the announcement for sacred attendance is made three times. The shrine officials (in formal court dress, sokutai) assemble at the Samurai-dokoro (waiting hall). Note: Since today the two officials of Kifune proceed to Kibune, they do not attend at this shrine. After all are assembled, the Shoshi-dayū (senior administrative official) comes forward and asks: "Since the Negi-kata and Hafuri-kata are all assembled, shall we proceed with the dispatch of the sacred provisions?" The Kannagi (head shrine official) replies that the dispatch should proceed. All officials rise from their seats, prostrate once toward the Nara Shrine, form an orderly procession, arrive, and take their seats at the Doi. (Those of the Negi-kata take their places in correct order of precedence from above, while the Gon-hafuri and those below take their places by proceeding around from the lower side.) Next, the sacred provisions are dispatched. (The Tone carries the sacred chest, while the Bettō and Shoshi follow behind the sacred provisions.) All prostrate (at the base of the Tama-bashi [jewel bridge], the Onmyō-dayū [Yin-Yang master] performs ritual purification of the sacred provisions). Next, the shrine officials proceed past their seats. (The Negi-kata prostrate once before the Main Shrine at the south end of the grating bridge [Sunoko-bashi], after which the Onmyō practitioners purify the bodies of the shrine officials beneath the Ō-bashi [great bridge].) The Negi proceed via the Tama-bashi, while the Hafuri proceed via the Kataoka no Watari-dono (bridging corridor), passing directly in front of the Shingu and Wakamiya shrines, and take their seats in the Watari-dono (corridor hall).
