Lady Rieko moved to Shizuoka in Meiji 32 (1899) and passed away the same year. During his illness, her husband submitted a petition to the Naito family regarding the restoration and succession of his house. At that time, consultations regarding the Kohinata Naito family were also undecided, so it was arranged that all possibilities would be kept in mind and a decision would be made later.
1. Regarding the matter of the abolition of Izumi-no-kami Tadakatsu's family name, according to oral tradition from the elders, both being respected members of the same clan, he and a certain Lord Nagai engaged in a sword fight at a certain temple. He magnificently struck off Lord Nagai's head and attempted to throw it over the transom into the chamber where the senior councilors were assembled. It was probably at this time that his house was abolished.
When Lord Yoriyasu was serving as Osaka guard duty, Lord Nagai was also on guard duty and present at the same occasion. Regarding the previous matter of branch families, although they had been estranged until then, there was a proposal from our house that since it had no relation to our family, future relations might be resumed. However, perhaps because that family still harbored resentment, there was no response and the estrangement continues.
