いかにも気持ちに悪い。このように深くかがまると
癖ができてしまう。まっすぐに立ってよく蹴るべきである。腰より
上はしなやかに、腰より下はまっすぐに強くある
べきである。鞠が左右にそれてしまうのは足が弱くて
内外にふらつくからである。手の持ち方は第一の重要事である。よくその
心得を理解して持つべきである。生まれつき得意でないことを言葉に従って
真似しようとすれば、かえって癖に見えて悪い
ことになってしまう。よくよく庭での練習に慣れることが大切である。
一 鞠の高さについて
人の鞠の高さは、弓の名人と下手な者のように、
すべて心がけによるものではなく、生まれつきのこと
がある。大体鞠の高さは一丈五尺のものなので、
大まかな心得をすべきである。しかしといって鞠を蹴るのに
この丈数に必ず合わせて蹴らなければならないということはない。
時によって優劣があるべきである。まして木の下や
軒下などは場所によるべきである。なお口伝
があるべきである。

Article 1: Regarding the height of the ball
The height at which a person kicks the ball is like the difference between a master archer and a poor one—
it does not depend entirely on dedication but is sometimes
a matter of natural ability. Generally, the ball's height is one jō and five shaku, so
one should have a general understanding of this. However, this does not mean that when kicking the ball
one must always match this exact measurement.
There should be variations depending on the occasion. Moreover, under trees or
under eaves, it should depend on the location. There should be further
oral instruction.
