Due to flooding, both rice fields and newly developed fields were submerged. Although the water gradually receded, it remained pooled in low-lying areas for several days, causing rice and grass to rot, while upland fields suffered from withering. Furthermore, from around 6 o'clock in the morning on the 6th of this month until the evening of the 7th, volcanic ash occasionally fell on the fields. From the night of the 8th, the ashfall became particularly heavy, and by the 9th, approximately 3-4 sun (9-12 cm) had accumulated, causing severe damage once again to the rice and grass that had been restored. This matter has been reported by the retainers stationed in that area. Although the total damage assessment will be reported after the harvest, I hereby submit this preliminary report.
July 12th
One report from the aforementioned lord to the same office dated July 15th reads as follows:
Regarding the eruption of Mount Asama in Shinano Province that I previously reported, volcanic ash and rocks fell on my territory, followed by muddy rain that completely buried and damaged the rice fields and dry fields, as detailed below:
One domain of 18,124 koku, 6 to, 5 sho, 5 shaku
Of which 15,431 koku, 4 to, 8 sho, 1 go
Usui District, Kozuke Province 45 villages
In these locations, volcanic ash and rocks accumulated from 7-8 sun to 4-5 shaku in depth (approximately 21-24 cm to 1.2-1.5 meters).
One domain of 2,693 koku, 1 to, 6 sho, 5 go, 5 shaku
Gunma District, same province 6 villages
