Depending on the location, the rumbling sounds continued without stopping, and volcanic ash accumulated to a depth of three to four sun, or even four to five sun. All the rice fields and farmland became completely covered with ash. I hereby submit this initial report. Furthermore, I will investigate the details and submit a follow-up report later.

Item: Copies of successive reports submitted by Lord Itakura Ise-no-kami to Lord Tanuma Tonomo-no-kami, who was on duty, are as follows:
Mount Asama in Shinano Province has been erupting since late last month, and from around past noon on the first day of this month, it became particularly intense. Occasionally, small amounts of volcanic ash fell on my domain of Annaka in Kozuke Province. On the same 5th day, there was extremely violent rumbling, and volcanic ash mixed with volcanic rocks
fell and accumulated to a depth of six to seven sun. From around noon on the 7th, it became as dark as night even during the day, making it nearly impossible to walk. The volcanic ash and rumbling sounds have not yet ceased, as reported by my retainers in the domain, so I hereby submit this preliminary report.

Item: A report dated July 12th from a domain lord to the same office is as follows:
In the villages within my domain in Sosa District and Kaijo District of Shimosa Province, there were strong winds and heavy rain day and night from the night of the 14th of last month until the night of the 18th of the same month, causing crops to grow over one jo in height.
