右二ケ村同国吾妻川通ニ去ル八日四ツ時山津浪ニ而
泥岩火石等夥敷押出し川嶋村ゟ杢橋御
関所北牧村家居田畑共ニ不残l流失仕尤モ
山手ニ少々家居相残候通リ流人数相知不申候
存命之者有之間敷哉と推察仕候斗ニ而万
一農業ニ罷出候歟又は秣場ニ罷出候者は相残
可申哉茂相知不申候縦相残申迚茂当時渇
命ニ及可申旨注進申出候
一中仙道軽井沢沓掛追分板鼻四ケ所之儀浅
間山大焼ニ而震動雷電仕当月七日夜ゟ大石
并砂凡壱尺壱寸程降積リ候由且軽井沢宿之義
は同日夜より焼石砂降掛リ家居毛へ揚リ一
宿不残焼失仕候由尤怪家人死失候人等之義は

高六百石余、江戸から三十一里 川島村
高八百石余、江戸から十七里 北牧村
右の二か村は同国吾妻川沿いにあり、去る八日午前十時頃、山津波により泥・岩・火山石などが大量に押し出し、川島村から杢橋御関所、北牧村の家屋・田畑ともに残らず流失いたしました。もっとも山手に少々家屋が残った通り、流された人数は分かりません。生存者はいないのではないかと推察するばかりで、万が一農作業に出ていたか、または草刈り場に出ていた者は残っているかもしれませんが、それも分かりません。たとえ残っていたとしても、現在は渇きと飢えで命に関わる状況であると注進がありました。
一、中山道の軽井沢・沓掛・追分・板鼻の四か所の件について、浅間山の大噴火により震動・雷電があり、当月七日夜から大石および砂がおよそ一尺一寸ほど降り積もったとのこと。また軽井沢宿については、同日夜より焼石・砂が降りかかり、家屋の屋根に上がって、宿場全体が残らず焼失したとのこと。もっとも負傷者・死者等についてはさらに調べて報告する旨、遠藤吉右衛門が届け出ましたので申し上げます。以上

These two villages are located along the Agatsuma River in the same province. On the 8th at around 10 AM, a debris flow (yamatsunami) caused mud, rocks, volcanic stones, and other materials to surge forth in great quantities. From Kawashima Village to the Mokuhashi checkpoint and Kitamaki Village, all houses and fields were completely swept away. Although some houses remained in the mountainous areas, the number of people swept away is unknown. We can only speculate that there are likely no survivors, though perhaps those who had gone out for farm work or to gather fodder might have survived, but this too is uncertain. Even if anyone did survive, reports indicate they would now be facing death from thirst and starvation.
Regarding the four locations on the Nakasendō - Karuizawa, Kutsukake, Oiwake, and Itahana - due to the great eruption of Mount Asama, there were tremors and thunder and lightning, and from the night of the 7th of this month, large stones and sand accumulated to approximately 1 shaku 1 sun in depth. As for Karuizawa post station, from the night of the same day, burning stones and sand fell, landing on house roofs, and the entire post station was completely burned down. Regarding injuries and deaths, Endō Kichiemon has reported that further investigation will be conducted. The above is hereby reported.
