現代語訳
塔ノ沢から山の麓に新道を開き（この幅は三間）、険しい道を越えることなく、馬車や人力車などが自由に宮ノ下まで通じるようになった。宮ノ下より一町ほど手前に標石があり、そこから堂ヶ島へ下る山道はわずか三、四丁ほどであるが、特に険しく、九十九折（つづら折り）になっている。堂ヶ島は極めて窪んだ場所で、早川が三方を巡り、その様子がまるで島の形をなしている。向かいは明神ヶ岳の流れで、山の中腹から白糸の滝が静かに流れ落ちており、まことに深山幽谷の地であり、七湯の中でも大いに趣を異にしている。近頃、新道を開いて宮ノ下の奈良屋の傍らへ出るようになり、この道は旧道よりもかなり平坦で、かつ近道である。

同所には以前、湯宿が五軒あったが、現在は三軒となっている。すなわち、

付記：元湯・奈良屋六郎兵衛は転業したのか、同家の跡地は平松某（銀行）の別荘となっている。閑雅な住まいであり、最もよい。また、この新道を登る道沿いに五層楼を建築した。
英語訳
A new road was opened from Tōnōsawa along the base of the mountain (three ken wide), allowing carriages and rickshaws to pass freely to Miyanoshita without crossing treacherous terrain. About one chō before reaching Miyanoshita, there is a marker stone, from which a mountain path descends to Dōgashima. Though the path is only three or four chō, it is particularly steep and winds in a zigzag pattern. Dōgashima is situated in a deeply hollowed-out depression, with the Hayakawa River encircling it on three sides, giving it the appearance of an island. Across the way lies the flow from Myōjingatake, from whose mountainside a slender cascade descends gently like white silk thread. It is truly a place of deep mountains and secluded valleys, differing greatly in character from the other seven hot springs. Recently, a new road was opened leading out near the Naraya inn in Miyanoshita, which is considerably more level than the old road and offers a shorter route.

The area formerly had five hot spring inns, but currently has three. Namely:
Yamatoya (proprietor: Taметаrō) Ōmiya
Koto Edoya (proprietor: Magosaburō)
Note: It appears that Motoyu Naraya Rokubei has changed his trade; the site of his establishment has become the villa of one Hiramatsu (a banker). It is an elegant and refined residence, most agreeable. Furthermore, a five-story building has been constructed along the new road leading uphill.
