右の図は、二間の土蔵の戸前口（入口）の内面に、一尺幅の挽き割り板で筋違いを入れ、柱ごとに切り込んで打ち付けた図である。なお、入札普請にて非常に安価な粗悪材・粗末な木を柱とし、鉋削りもしないので、大工の手間もそれほど多くはかからない。しかしながら、内面の四方ともに、図のように十字形の筋違いを打ち込んだ時は、その骨組みの堅固なること大磐石（たいばんじゃく）のごとく、いかなる大地震においても動揺しないがゆえに、その壁は少しも損じるところがない。それゆえ、烈風・大火においても類焼の恐れがない。私の親友はこのようにして、去る

The figure on the right depicts a cross-section of the interior of a two-ken storehouse (dozō) entrance, showing diagonal braces (sujiちがい) made of boards one shaku wide inserted and notched into each pillar. Since this construction uses the competitive-bid method (nyūsatsu-fushin) with extremely inexpensive rough and poor-quality timber for the pillars, and no planing is applied, the carpenter's labor is not particularly extensive. Nevertheless, when diagonal braces in a cross pattern are driven in on all four interior sides as shown in the figure, the framework becomes as solid and immovable as a great boulder (daibanjaku), such that it will not sway even in the most severe earthquake; therefore, the walls sustain not even the slightest damage. For this reason, there is no fear of the fire spreading to the storehouse even in fierce winds or great conflagrations.
