（津波の）来る方角に向けて、柳を一間（約1.8メートル）おきに植え付け、毎年すべての枝を切り捨て、高さ二丈余（約6メートル以上）で幹回り二尺（約60センチ）ほどになる時には、大きな漂流物が押し寄せてくる難を逃れるに至るであろう。年を追って成長して幹回り三尺（約90センチ）以上にもなれば、いかなる大船が流れ来ても、決して押し倒されることはないはずである。数ある樹木の中で、成長の速いものは柳の木に勝るものはない。よろしくこれを植えて、その大きな災害を避けるべきである。

この書は火災を防ぐための一奇書であって、いかなる烈風・猛火であっても、翁が工夫した防具をもって速やかに遮り止め、数万軒の類焼という大災害を免れさせることができる、先人が未だ発見していなかった一つの奇術である。附録には、大地震・大津波・大嵐・竜巻などの災害予防の術を記し、都市から浦・浜・海辺に至るまで、水・火・地震・風の危難を脱せしめようとするものである。もとより祈祷・呪いなどのような怪しい空論ではなく、その法術はすべて図解にして、婦女子にも分かりやすく、まことに国益広大にして古今無比の一大奇書と言うべきである。

この書もまた先人が未だ発見していなかった一つの奇術であって、わずかな人力も借りずに、最も低く卑（ひく）い場所にある汗池（かんち）・止水（とめみず）を激しく動かして、三丈・五丈ないし十丈・二十丈（約9メートル・15メートルないし30メートル・60メートル）の丘陵に登らせ、田畑を潤し、干ばつによる損害の難を逃れさせ、農夫を安堵させることができる一奇書である。まことに踏車・水車を用いずして、さらに渇水の難なし。これもまた国益上至って重要な書である。

In the direction from which (the tsunami) comes, willows should be planted at intervals of one ken (approximately 1.8 meters), with all branches cut away every year. When they have grown to a height of over two jō (approximately 6 meters) and a trunk circumference of two shaku (approximately 60 centimeters), one should be able to escape the peril of large drifting objects being pushed against one's home. As the years pass and the trees grow to a trunk circumference of three shaku (approximately 90 centimeters) or more, no matter how large a ship comes floating in, it should absolutely never be knocked over. Among all trees, there is none that surpasses the willow in speed of growth. It is therefore recommended that these be planted in order to avoid such great disasters.
