（津波が来る）方角に向けて、柳を一間おきに植え付け、毎年すべての枝を切り捨て、高さ二丈余りで幹の周囲が二尺ほどになった時には、大きな流木が漂い押し寄せてくる被害を免れるようになるだろう。さらに年を重ねて幹の周囲が三尺以上にもなれば、どのような大船が流れてきても、決して押し倒されることはないだろう。あらゆる樹木の中で、成長の早いものは柳にまさるものはない。ぜひこれを植えて、その大きな災害を避けるべきである。

In the direction from which tsunamis may come, plant willows at intervals of one *ken* (approximately 1.8 meters), and each year cut back all the branches completely. When the trees have grown to a height of over two *jō* (approximately 6 meters) and a trunk circumference of two *shaku* (approximately 60 cm), one will be protected from the harm of large drifting logs and debris. As the years pass and the trunks reach a circumference of three *shaku* (approximately 90 cm) or more, no matter how large a ship comes floating in, it shall certainly never knock them down. Among all trees, none surpasses the willow in speed of growth. It is strongly recommended to plant these willows in order to avoid such great disasters.
