右の図は、表間口二間半の二階建てで、表柱三本を建て、三尺の戸袋を付け、間口二間の箇所を柱なしとし、二階は左右に戸袋を付けて間戸（窓）を九尺にした建家に、筋違いを切り込んで打ち付けた図である。もし庇を付ける場合にも、図のような筋違いを打ち付けた後に、二階の間仕切り戸の下から取り付けるべきである。もっとも、筋違いを外面から打ち付けにくい箇所は、内面から打つべきである。また、裏口および横手（側面）などにおいても、出入り口に小間仕切り戸がある場合は、すべてこの図を参照して考えた上で打つべきである。また、座敷の中の仕切り壁がある箇所についても、これまた同様にこの図に倣い

The figure on the right depicts a two-story building with a frontage of two and a half ken, in which three front pillars are erected, a shutter box (tobukuro) of three shaku is attached, the span of two ken is left without a pillar, and on the second floor, shutter boxes are attached on both the left and right sides, making the window opening (mado) nine shaku wide — this is a figure showing diagonal braces (sujikai) cut and fastened into such a structure. Even if eaves (hisashi) are to be added, the diagonal braces should first be fastened as shown in the figure, and only thereafter should the eaves be attached from below the second-floor partition doors. That said, in places where it is difficult to drive the diagonal braces from the exterior, they should be driven from the interior. Furthermore, for the back entrance and side entrances as well, wherever there are small partition doors at entryways, one should consult this figure, carefully consider the arrangement, and then drive the braces accordingly. Moreover, for locations within the reception rooms (zashiki) where there are partition walls, the same approach should likewise be followed, in accordance with this figure —
