唾吹ムシ　又アハムシト云諸草木ニ着ク
　就中バラニ多ク生ス羽化スヨコブヱニ似　

　タリ小蝉ノ如ク捕シトスレハ跳飛五六尺
　サゴロモ蝉ト云　赤尾ノモノ雄ナリ夜
　光リアリ蛍火ノ如シト云

現代語訳

【右丁上段】
ホウ（カメムシ）　二種
　共に怒ると極めて青い臭気を発する
　草果（サンショウ）の匂いのようである

下野地方の方言で平賀虫。縁は黒い輪で、縁は丹色、内側は白く、中央は
黒い。周りの黒い目は茶色で縁取られている。黒い輪の内側は白く
うねった星の形が
五つずつある。背筋
を通って黒く、白い
星が八つ並んでいる。
足と触角は黒い。

【右丁下段】
ホウ（カメムシ）　俗にハンニウと言う。触れると草果（サンショウ）の匂いがする。秋の月に
黄蘗（キハダ）の上から落ちるものである。武士の肩衣を着せた
形に似ている。

【左丁上段】
唾吹虫（ツバフキムシ）　またアワムシとも言う。諸々の草木に付く。
　特にバラに多く生息する。羽化するとヨコバイに似ている。

　小さな蝉のように、捕らえようとすると五六尺も跳び飛ぶ。
　サゴロモ蝉とも言う。赤い尻尾のものが雄である。夜
　光があり、蛍火のようだと言う。

【左丁下段】
ミミズク　ヨコバイの一種で珍しい品種である。
　その羽の白い部分は透き通っており、小蝉に似
　ている。

　　　　　　　　マムキの図はこのようで、ミミズク
　　　　　　　　に似ている。

In Shimotsuke dialect called Hiraga-mushi. The edge has a black ring, the border is cinnabar-colored, the inside is white, and the center is
black. The surrounding black eyes are outlined in brown. Inside the black ring is white
with wavy star shapes
five at a time. Along the back
runs a black line with eight white
stars lined up.
Legs and antennae are black.

Hō (stink bug)　Commonly called Hanniu. When touched, it produces the scent of grass fruit (Japanese pepper). In autumn months
it falls from the Phellodendron trees. It resembles the shape of a warrior wearing
a shoulder garment (kataginu).

【Upper Left Page】
Tsubafuki-mushi (spittle bug)　Also called Awa-mushi. Attaches to various grasses and trees.
　Especially abundant on roses. When it metamorphoses, it resembles a leafhopper.

　Like a small cicada, when you try to catch it, it jumps and flies five to six feet.
　Also called Sagoromo-semi. Those with red tails are males. At night
　they have light, said to be like firefly light.

Mimizuku　A type of leafhopper, an unusual variety.
　The white parts of its wings are transparent, resembling
　a small cicada.
