現代語訳

【右丁上段】
コチニールカイガラムシ　寛政年間にオランダ船が持参したもの　蛮名はコーセニイレ　大きさは露草の実に似ている　形状は長円形で色は様々で一定ではない　背は高く摘んだような形で筋がうねっていて黒光りする漆で塗ったかのようである　薄い部分は赤く燕脂色をなすものもある　質は堅く硬い　腹は平たく凹んで内側に巻き込んだようなものもある　脚はなく木の枝に粘着する部分である

この虫を二三粒小皿に入れ熱湯を注ぎ入れ明礬少々を入れると即座に紅汁が出て燕脂色が現れる　煮詰めて絵の具として使用できる　虫は皮のみが残るものである　これはゲルマニア（ドイツ）国中から産する一種の虫卵でヨハネスブロートというものであり今コーセニイレに偽物として混入するものである　別に図説があるので参考にすべきである

柚子につく虫　また臭橘にも生息する　五月から六七月まで見られる
　　　　　　　卓氏の藻林虫類に
　　　　　　　いう　唐詩に
　　　　　　　「花暖青牛臥」
　　　　　　　の句があり、注に
　　　　　　　いう、「花葉
　　　　　　　の上の青虫
　　　　　　　である、二つの
　　　　　　　角があり蝸牛
　　　　　　　のようである」と

この虫は稀に見るもので名前がない　紗で作った団扇のようである　大きさは胡麻粒のようである
その羽は透明で亀甲文様の小筋が精密で奇巧、たとえるものがない　これもまた翅虫の類であろうか
ナキザミおよびアズキアライという小虫がいる　またこの虫の種類である
薄い羽がある　上の方に縦にも羽があり三方向に出ている　画筆でも描き難い
全体がまったくガラスで作ったもののようである　千芳軒では俗に軍配虫と呼ぶ
別にまた図説があるので参考にすべきである

Cochineal Scale Insect　Brought by Dutch ships during the Kansei era　Foreign name: Kōsenīre　Size resembles the fruit of dayflower　Shape is oblong with various colors, not uniform　Back is high and appears pinched, with undulating ridges that shine black as if painted with lacquer　Thin areas are red and some have the color of rouge　Texture is firm and hard　Belly is flat and concave, some appearing rolled inward　No legs, adheres to tree branches

When two or three of these insects are placed in a small dish with hot water poured over them and a little alum added, red juice immediately emerges showing rouge color　Can be boiled down for use as pigment　Only the insect's skin remains　This is a type of insect egg from throughout Germania (Germany) called Johannes Brot, which is now mixed as a counterfeit substitute for Kōsenīre　There is a separate illustrated explanation to be referenced

Its wings are transparent with precise and ingeniously crafted small veins in tortoiseshell pattern, incomparable to anything　This too may be a type of winged insect
There are small insects called Nakizami and Azukiarai　These are also of this insect's species
Has thin wings　Above there are also vertical wings extending in three directions　Difficult even for a painting brush to capture
The whole appears exactly as if made of glass　Senpōken commonly calls it the "war fan insect"
