冬月暖所土窖中ニ入寒ヲ凌ク偶山野暖所土中ヨリ厳寒ノ節冬蟄ノモノ
ヲ掘出スコトアリ如是鮮紅ニシテ琉朱色ノモノヲ得ルコトアリ味更ニ美ニシテ其効モ殊ニ
優レリ頭上眼ヨリ下リテ人字紋印ノ如
クアルモノ別テ良薬ニスルニ最上ノ品ナリ

山蛤　アカガエル　西国ではアカヒキと呼ぶ
左の図のような非常に赤いものは世間では稀である
冬の月には暖かい所の土の穴の中に入って寒さを凌ぐ。偶然山野の暖かい所の土中より厳寒の節に冬眠しているもの
を掘り出すことがある。このように鮮やかな紅色をして朱色のものを得ることがある。味はさらに美味で、その薬効も特に
優れている。頭上、眼より下がって人の字の紋様のよう
になっているものは、とりわけ良薬にするのに最上の品である

Mountain Frog - Red Frog - Called Akahiki in western provinces
Those that are extremely red as shown in the left figure are rare in the world.
In winter months, they enter warm places in earth burrows to endure the cold. Occasionally, when digging in warm places in the mountains and fields during severe cold periods, one may find those in winter hibernation
emerging from the soil. Sometimes one can obtain specimens with such vivid crimson and vermillion color. The taste is exceptionally delicious, and its medicinal effects are particularly
excellent. Those with markings descending from above the head and eyes resembling the character for "person" (人)
are the finest quality for making superior medicine.
