現代語訳

【右丁】
石州浜田産で、方言では「クモダコ」と呼ばれる。その五本の足には節があり、細かい鱗状の甲羅がある。石龍子（とかげ）の尻尾の先端に似ている。表面は丸く、裏面は平たい。また打紐にも似ている。真に奇妙な生物である。その浜の漁師の網に稀にかかって上がることがあるという。裏面の真ん中に口があり、梅花紋のようである。紀州の「六百介品」中の「花筪」は、このもののしゃれた名前であろう。

全体の裏面は淡いカキ色で、その口と思われるものが裏面の正中にあり、花の形をなしている。

蝦夷地のエゾモノ産
ムイ
蝦夷箱館より東の方にムイ島がある。そこより東の方、カラフトに至るまで、すべてこのムイのみがあり、全くアワビがない。箱館辺りより西の方には多くアワビがあって、このムイはない。この生物はアワビに似ているが殻がない。肉中に矢尻に似た硬い骨がある。昔、アワビと争闘して一方が負けて矢で射られ、殻も取られたと蝦夷の人が語り伝えているということである。このムイということを詠み入れた一首の和歌がある。「憂き身を誰にか語らんイソマクラ問う寄る貝も定めなみまに」

From Hamada in Iwami Province (Ishishu), locally called "Kumodako" (Spider Octopus). Its five legs have joints with fine scale-like armor. It resembles the tip of a lizard's tail. The surface is round and the underside is flat. It also resembles a braided cord. It is truly a strange creature. It is said to rarely get caught in the nets of local fishermen. There is a mouth in the center of the underside that looks like a plum blossom pattern. The "Hanazutsu" in Kishu's "Six Hundred Shellfish Species" is probably a refined name for this creature.

The entire underside is pale persimmon-colored, and what appears to be its mouth is located at the center of the underside, forming a flower-like shape.

Ezo Products from Ezo Land
Mui
There is Mui Island to the east of Hakodate in Ezo. From there eastward to Karafuto (Sakhalin), there are only these Mui and absolutely no abalone. To the west of the Hakodate area, there are many abalone but no Mui. This creature resembles abalone but has no shell. Inside the flesh there is a hard bone resembling an arrowhead. It is said that the Ainu people tell a legend that long ago, abalone and Mui fought, one side lost and was shot with arrows, and even had their shells taken away. There is a waka poem that incorporates the word "Mui": "To whom shall I tell of my sorrowful existence? Even the questioning shells that approach the rocky shore have no fixed dwelling."
