海燕　越中魚津浦の産
　　　方言でイトマキと呼ぶ

蝦夷産で、形が楓の葉のようであるため、俗に紅葉貝と呼ぶ。

福州府志に言う「楓葉魚」、海物異名記に言う「楓樹霜葉風飄浪翻腐如蛍化其質為魚」というのは、私が考えるに、疑わしくはこの生物のことであろうか。

台湾府志にいう海蒜、一名湖賢は、状がハマグリに類似し、肉が三寸余り垂れ下がり、白色で上に黒点がある。形状は甚だ劣り、これを食べると多く腹瀉を患うという。もしかするとこの生物であろうか。

【上段左】
スナヘソ
江戸でシリゴダマと呼ぶものの類で、浅い水の所にいて髭を出す。菊の花のようである。痔並びに脱肛を治すという。

越前魚津浦の産のイトマキの小さな者

From Ezo, shaped like a maple leaf, hence commonly called "Momiji-gai" (maple leaf shell).

The Fuzhou Prefectural Gazetteer mentions "maple leaf fish," and the Record of Alternative Names for Sea Creatures states "maple tree frost leaves blown by wind, tossed by waves, rotting like fireflies transforming their essence into fish." In my consideration, this might possibly refer to this creature.

What the Taiwan Prefectural Gazetteer calls "sea garlic," also known as "lake sage," resembles a clam in shape, with flesh hanging down more than three inches, white in color with black spots on top. Its appearance is quite inferior, and eating it often causes diarrhea. Could this possibly be the same creature?

A type of what is called "Shirigodama" in Edo, found in shallow waters where it extends whiskers like chrysanthemum flowers. It is said to cure hemorrhoids and rectal prolapse.
