巳四月下澣写之活者甚稀也其形状甚奇ニシテ譬ルニ物ナシ其巧又細密ニシテ

屋代太郎方ニ自取リ秘蔵スルモノヲ見ルニ形此物ト仝只白色光アリ白漆ニテ

或云此物モヌケテ鳳車（アゲハノテウ）出ルト未此物ヲ養テ試ミズ此モノ薩州鹿児

現代語訳

【右丁】
螠（即ち縊女） 和名：ヲキクムシ、アマノジヤキ

巳四月下旬にこれを写す。生きているものは甚だ稀である。その形状は甚だ奇異で、何かに譬えようがない。その巧妙さもまた細密で、人の作が及ぶところではなく、造化の妙を見ることができる。

屋代太郎のところで自ら取って秘蔵するものを見るに、形はこの物と同じで、ただ白色に光があり、白漆で塗ったかのようである。

或る人が言うには、この物も脱皮してアゲハ蝶が出るということだが、まだこの物を飼って試していない。この物は薩州鹿児島から八里入った市泉の深山中の産物である。彼の地から奇品として将来されると言って、橘宗仙院より恵み贈られたことにより、そのまま写真とする。今においてもこの虫を秘蔵している。

This was drawn in late April of the Snake year. Living specimens are extremely rare. Its form is extraordinarily strange and cannot be compared to anything. Its construction is also intricate and delicate, beyond what human craftsmanship can achieve - one can see the marvel of natural creation.

When I examined one that Yashiro Tarō had personally collected and kept as a treasure, its form was the same as this creature, only with a white color that had a luster, as if painted with white lacquer.

Someone said that this creature also molts and produces a swallowtail butterfly, but I have not yet tried raising this creature to test this. This creature is a product of the deep mountains of Ichizumi, eight ri inland from Kagoshima in Satsuma province. It was said to be brought as a curiosity from that region, and because it was graciously gifted by Tachibana Sōsen-in, I drew it exactly as it was. I still treasure this insect today.
