現代語訳

縊女　二種　俗にクビククリ虫と言うものがこれである。

考察するに『太平御覧』に云う：「縊女は虫である。一名は蜆。長さは一寸ほど。頭は赤く身は黒い。常に糸を吐いて自ら懸かる。昔、斉の東郭姜が既に崔杼の室を乱し、慶封がその二子を殺すと、姜はまた自ら首を縊った。俗伝では、この婦人の骸が化して虫となった。故に縊女を名とする。」

范石湖の詩に云う：「橘蠹蚕の如く化機に入り、枝間に垂れる繭は蓑衣に似たり。欻然として蛻して多花の蝶と作り、翅の粉わずかに乾けばすなわち飛び去る。」

Kubikiri-onna (Hanging Woman) - Two types. This is what is commonly called Kubikukuri-mushi (neck-hanging insect).

According to my research, the Taiping Yulan states: "Kubikiri-onna is an insect. Also called Ken. About one sun in length. Its head is red and body is black. It constantly spits silk thread and hangs itself. Long ago, when Dong Guo Jiang of Qi had already disrupted Cui Zhu's household, and Qing Feng killed her two sons, Jiang also hanged herself. Folk tradition says this woman's corpse transformed into an insect. Therefore it is named Kubikiri-onna (Hanging Woman)."

Fan Shih-hu's poem says: "The orange borer like a silkworm enters the transformation mechanism, the cocoon hanging between branches resembles a straw raincoat. Suddenly it molts and becomes a many-flowered butterfly, as soon as the wing powder dries it flies away."
