現代語訳

【右丁】
蜥蜴の一種　カナヘビ（金蛇）で、形は痩せており、尾が長く、木の枝を伝って走ることが速い。道灌山に生息する。普通の石龍子（トカゲ）は尾が紫翠色で美しく、庭際の石垣にのみ住んで地上を走ることが素早いが、木の枝の上を走ることはない。この生き物とは性質が異なる。

『古今注』に「蝘蜓（えいてい）は一名を龍子といい、よく木に上り蝉を捕らえてこれを食す。甚だ長く細いものがこれである」とある。

䱱魚児（さんしょううおの幼魚）　サンショウウオの初生
淡海（琵琶湖）へ落ちる山川や渓流の水中で、春の月に落葉が積もった場所にいる。頭の辺りの両方に松毛のような毛が三本ずつ生えている。育って大きくなったものは二尺、三尺に至る。これは山アンコウ、ハンザキと呼ばれるものである。別に図がある。

A type of lizard - Kanāhebi (Japanese grass lizard), with a thin form and long tail, runs swiftly along tree branches. It inhabits Dōkan-yama. The ordinary stone dragon (common lizard) has a beautiful purple-green tail and lives only in stone walls around gardens, running swiftly on the ground but never running on tree branches. This creature differs in nature from that one.

The "Kokon-chū" states: "The gecko (eitei), also called ryūshi (dragon child), skillfully climbs trees to catch and eat cicadas. The very long and slender ones are these."

Found in mountain streams and valley waters that flow into Lake Biwa (Tankai), in places where fallen leaves have accumulated during spring months. Around the head area, three pine needle-like hairs grow on each side. When they mature and grow large, they reach two to three shaku in length. This is what is called mountain anglerfish or hanzaki. There is a separate illustration.
