現代語訳

【右丁】
紡績娘　クツワムシ　赤・青・褐の三種がある
その盛んに鳴くとき翼を
動かし、薄暮より夜中まで
ざわざわと声をなすこと
連綿として止まず、極めてやかましい。そのため唐山（中国）の人は
聒々兒と言う。
麻蚱、和名は久都倭
武之。この虫の姿は最も雄偉で
イナゴ類に似て肥大、茶褐色。声
もまた雄壮で、仲夏より
秋末まで鳴く。暖かい
地では霜降の
時なお声がある。けだし
秋虫中の健やかな者
である。庭にこの虫が
いれば、他の虫の吟はみな奪われて聞こえず、よろしくない。

近頃聞くところでは、あるいはこれを遠い樹に放って、その来去に任せ、秋の声を点綴するのもまた雅
やかなことである、と李笠翁の画伝に見える。

Spinning Maiden　Kutsuwa-mushi　There are three varieties: red, blue, and brown
When they chirp vigorously, they move their wings,
and from dusk through the night
they make rustling sounds
continuously without cease, extremely noisy. Therefore, people of Tang-shan (China)
call them Kaku-kaku-ji.
Ma-zha, the Japanese name is Ku-tsu-wa-
mu-shi. The form of this insect is most magnificent,
resembling locusts but large and fat, tea-brown in color. Its voice
is also powerful, chirping from mid-
summer to late autumn. In warm
places, they still have voice even at
the time of frost descent. Indeed,
they are the vigorous ones
among autumn insects. When this insect is
in the garden, the songs of all other insects are drowned out, which is not desirable.

Recently I heard that some release them to distant trees, allowing them to come and go freely, adding touches to autumn sounds, which is also an elegant
matter, as seen in Li Liweng's illustrated biography.

As noted above, males have contracted tails
without spines, can sing well and do not stop all night long.
They emerge abundantly in the seventh and eighth months.
