　　とありそれほとか養蚕の宜しきなり
一右のしゝこへ桑付する事前にも云ことく随分干乾したる
　わらたへ籾糠をしき蚕を鳥の羽本にて静に剥（はき）とり夫より
　手を洗ひ清め少ツヽ引分わらだ壱枚を三枚ツヽに縁通（ふちとを）りを除（よけ）
　よく並置桑は#2二三分程に切かけべし夫より三四日過たらはそろ〳〵

　　を敷入るに及はす蚕を直（すく）に取分置へし糠を敷中は
　　蠢はしめと三日めと一起めと都合三度に限るべし
一右蚕分揃たる已後もすべて前のことく取扱すべし
　　附此時をふなこと云凡蠢初より是迄は気根（きこん）これある実（じつ）
　　体（てい）の男女に不浄（ふじやう）なくして蚕室（こかいや）にふし居（おり）折々 炭火（すみひ）をつき
　　前に云ことく袷一重にて寒からす熱からす心能程に
　　すへし若炭不自由ならは桑の木 楢（なら）そねの類を焚（たく）べし
　　惣して焚火は炭の火にまされとも昼夜 間断（かんだん）なくたくには
　　炭にあらされば続（つゞき）かぬるもの也三四月中には夜半已後
　　より朝迄は格別冷るものゆへ随分心を用右のことく

現代語訳

【右丁】
そのようにすれば、養蚕が非常にうまくいくものである。

一、右の初回脱皮した蚕に桑を与えることについて、前にも述べたように、十分に乾燥させた藁筵に籾糠を敷き、蚕を鳥の羽根で静かに剥ぎ取り、それから手を洗い清めて少しずつ分け、藁筵一枚を三枚ずつに縁の通りを除いてよく並べ置き、桑は二、三分程度に切ってかけるべきである。それから三、四日経ったら、そろそろ脱皮するであろう。その頃は桑を薄く何度もかけてよい。半分ほど脱皮したら前のように桑を止めるべきである。もし脱皮が揃わなければ、これも前のようにするべきである。残らず脱皮が揃ったら桑を薄くかけ、それから次第にむらなく厚くかけるべきである。総じて一日に四、五度ずつかけるのがよい。

付記：右の脱皮した蚕は二度目で起立することを「たつ」と言う。これより後は藁筵に籾糠

【左丁】
を敷き入れる必要はなく、蚕を直接取り分けて置くべきである。糠を敷くのは脱皮始めと三日目と一回目の脱皮の時で、都合三度に限るべきである。

一、右の蚕の分別が揃った以後も、すべて前のように取り扱うべきである。

付記：この時を「ふな」と言う。おおよそ脱皮初めからここまでは、気根のある実体の男女が不浄なくして蚕室に臥し、折々炭火を焚き、前に言ったように袷一重で寒からず熱からず、程よい加減にするべきである。もし炭が手に入らなければ、桑の木、楢、曽根の類を焚くべきである。総じて薪の火は炭の火に勝るといえども、昼夜間断なく焚くには炭でなければ続かないものである。三、四月中には夜半以後から朝まではことに冷えるものゆえ、十分に心を用い右のように

If done this way, sericulture will be very successful.

1. Regarding feeding mulberry to the silkworms that have undergone their first molting, as mentioned before, spread rice bran on well-dried straw mats, gently remove the silkworms with bird feathers, then wash and purify your hands, separate them little by little, arrange three mats per original mat excluding the edges, and cut mulberry leaves into pieces of about 2-3 bu in size before feeding. After 3-4 days have passed, they will gradually begin to molt. At that time, it is good to feed mulberry thinly and frequently. When about half have molted, stop feeding mulberry as before. If molting is not uniform, do the same as before. When all have completely finished molting, feed mulberry thinly, then gradually feed more thickly and evenly. Generally, feeding 4-5 times per day is good.

Note: The molted silkworms from this second stage are said to "stand up" (tatsu). From this point onward, there is no need to spread rice bran on the straw mats.

The silkworms should be separated and placed directly. Rice bran should be spread only at the beginning of molting, on the third day, and during the first molting - limited to three times total.

1. After the silkworms have been properly separated, handle them all as before.

Note: This time is called "funa." Generally, from the beginning of molting until this point, vigorous men and women without impurity should stay in the silkworm room, occasionally lighting charcoal fires, maintaining a comfortable temperature - neither cold nor hot - with single-layer clothing as mentioned before. If charcoal is unavailable, burn mulberry wood, oak, or similar trees. While wood fires are superior to charcoal fires in general, charcoal is necessary for continuous day-and-night burning. During the third and fourth months, it gets particularly cold from midnight until morning, so one should pay careful attention as described above.
