失われた髪も再び生え、視力も明瞭になると言われていた。天皇はこの場所へ行幸なさり、この泉は老いを養うものであると仰せられ、すぐに年号を養老と号した。世間で言う養老の滝がこれである。
二年五月、越前を分けて能登とし、下総を分けて安房とした。
十二月、多治比県守が大唐より帰国した。同年、右大臣藤原不比等に命じて、重ねて律令各十巻を修訂させた。
四年五月、三品舎人親王が日本紀三十巻を作って奉った。
神代より持統天皇までを詳細に記録した。舎人は天武天皇の皇子である。八月、右大臣藤原不比等が薨去した。享年六十二歳。太政大臣正一位を贈られ、文忠公と諡された。淡海公がこの人である。
舎人親王をもって知太政官事として政務を行わせた。

It recorded in detail from the age of the gods to Empress Jitō. Toneri was a son of Emperor Tenmu. In the eighth month, Right Minister Fujiwara no Fuhito died at the age of sixty-two. He was posthumously granted the rank of Grand Minister of State, First Rank, and given the posthumous name Bunchu-kō. This was Lord Ōmi.
Prince Toneri was appointed as Director of the Great Council of State to conduct government affairs.
This year, the Hayato of Ōsumi and the Emishi of Mutsu rebelled, so generals were sent east and west
