激しく攻撃されたため、藤原広嗣は戦いに敗れ、船に乗って外国へ逃げようとしたところを、肥前国松浦郡長野村にて、官軍の中の安倍黒麻呂という者が広嗣を生け捕りにして、すぐにこれを斬った。綱手も同様に殺された。ある説によると、広嗣は駿馬に乗って海へ飛び込み、その霊がたたりをなすため、松浦に神社を建てて神として崇めているという。広嗣は藤原宇合の子である。

Under fierce attack, Fujiwara no Hirotsugu was defeated in battle and attempted to flee by ship to a foreign country, but was captured alive by Abe no Kuromaro, one of the government forces, in Nagano Village, Matsuura District, Hizen Province, who immediately beheaded him. Tsunate was also killed. According to one account, Hirotsugu rode a swift horse and leaped into the sea, and because his spirit caused curses, a shrine was built in Matsuura where he is worshipped as a deity. Hirotsugu was the son of Fujiwara no Umakai.
During Hirotsugu's rebellion, the Emperor made an imperial visit to Ise Province. He made offerings to the Grand Shrine of Ise, passed through Mino and Iga provinces, moved the capital to Sagara District in Yamashiro Province, and built a new palace. This was called Kuni Palace. The crimes of Hirotsugu's associates were determined, and ranks were bestowed upon Ōno no Azumahito, Sakanoue no Iimaro, Abe no Tsunehito Mushimaro, and others.
