In the second month of the fourteenth year, Fujiwara no Sadatoshi was appointed as head of the Bureau of Music (Utanokami). This person had traveled to Tang China and learned music there before returning. In the fifth month, Haruzumi Yoshitsuna finished reading the Zhuangzi before the emperor and also read the Book of Han. In the tenth month, Jikaku returned from Tang China. During this monk's ten years in Tang, Emperor Wuzong of Tang had prohibited monks and nuns throughout the realm, so it is said that Jikaku was also temporarily forced to return to lay life. Also, a famous monk called Enzai, who had entered Tang at the same time as Jikaku, still remained in Tang and did not return. In the same month, Tachibana no Naramaro was posthumously granted the position of Grand Minister of State with Senior First Rank.
