三年正月三日、天皇が元服した（十四歳）。加冠は伊尹が、理髪は兼明が行った。四月、源高明が赦免されて、筑紫より帰洛した。十一月、伊尹が薨去した。年四十九。正一位を贈られ、参河公に封じられ、謙徳公と謚された。伊尹の弟兼通を内大臣に任じ、関白とした。これより以前、兼通が参議であった時、その弟兼家は中納言であった。兼通が中納言であった時、兼家は大納言であった。兼通は兄でありながら、弟に超越されたことを憤っていた。ここに至って、兼通は大納言を経ずに中納言より直接大臣関白となった。右大臣頼忠は従兄弟であるゆえに、政事を相談し、兼家を憎んでこれを害そうとした。兼家の屋敷へ出入りする者を叱りつけた。

On the third day of the first month of the third year, the emperor came of age (at fourteen years old). Koretada performed the capping ceremony, and Kaneakira performed the hair-cutting ceremony. In the fourth month, Minamoto no Takaakira was pardoned and returned to the capital from Kyushu. In the eleventh month, Koretada passed away at the age of forty-nine. He was posthumously granted Senior First Rank, enfeoffed as Duke of Mikawa, and given the posthumous name Kentoku-kō. Koretada's younger brother Kanemichi was appointed Minister of the Interior and made regent. Previously, when Kanemichi was a councilor (sangi), his younger brother Kaneie was a middle councilor. When Kanemichi was a middle councilor, Kaneie was a major councilor. Kanemichi, being the elder brother, resented being surpassed by his younger brother. At this point, Kanemichi became minister and regent directly from middle councilor, skipping the rank of major councilor. Minister of the Right Yorichika, being a cousin, consulted with him on government affairs and sought to harm Kaneie out of hatred. He scolded those who frequented Kaneie's residence.
In Tennen 1, on the night of the twenty-fourth day of the fourth month, bandits surrounded the residence of Minamoto no Mitsunaka.
