現代語訳
佐理は、異国までも知られた能書家である。十月、兼通は病気により、関白を頼忠に譲った。兼通が奏上したことには、弟兼家の娘が冷泉太上皇に寵愛されて、子を産んだので、帝位を復活させようとする意志があると讒言して、兼家の大納言右大将の官を削って、治部卿に降格させた。なお飽き足らず、死罪・流罪かと奏上したが、勅許はなかった。十一月八日、兼通が薨去した。享年五十一。遠江公に封じられ、忠義公と謚された。
天元元年八月、兼家の娘詮子を召して、梅壺に侍らせ、女御とした。これより先、兼通の娘が中宮であった。故に兼通存命の間は、他人の娘は入内しなかった。兼通が薨去したことにより、詮子が入内した。程なく皇子を産んだ。十月、頼忠が太政大臣となった。源雅信が左大臣となった。兼家が右大臣となった。

Sari was a master calligrapher known even in foreign countries. In the tenth month, Kanemichi, due to illness, yielded the position of regent (kanpaku) to Yoritada. Kanemichi submitted a memorial stating that his younger brother Kanei's daughter was favored by Retired Emperor Reizei and bore him a child, and therefore had intentions to restore him to the throne. With this slander, he stripped Kanei of his positions as major counselor and general of the right, demoting him to minister of justice. Still not satisfied, he petitioned for death penalty or exile, but imperial permission was not granted. On the eighth day of the eleventh month, Kanemichi died at the age of fifty-one. He was granted the title Duke of Tōtōmi and posthumously named Duke Chūgi (Loyal and Righteous).
In the eighth month of the first year of Ten'en era, Kanei's daughter Senshi was summoned to serve in the Plum Court and made an imperial consort. Before this, Kanemichi's daughter had been empress. Therefore, during Kanemichi's lifetime, no other man's daughter entered the palace. Due to Kanemichi's death, Senshi entered the palace. Soon after, she gave birth to an imperial prince. In the tenth month, Yoritada became grand minister of state. Minamoto no Masanobu became left minister. Kanei became right minister.
