春日神社に行幸。六月、前関白藤原頼忠が薨去した。年齢六十六歳。駿河公に封じて廉義公と諡号を贈った。八月、大風が吹き、宮城の諸門やその他多くの神社が倒壊した。十二月、兼家が太政大臣に任命された。
正暦元年正月、天皇が元服。十一歳であった。五月、兼家が病気のため髪を剃って出家し、東三条の大入道と号した。道隆を摂政として、兼家に代わって政治を行わせた。七月二日、兼家が薨去した。年齢六十二歳。病中に出家したため諡号はない。その館を寺として法興院と号した。摂家の院号はこれを始まりとする。

Imperial visit to Kasuga Shrine. In the sixth month, former Kampaku Fujiwara no Yorichika died at the age of sixty-six. He was granted the title of Suruga-kō and given the posthumous name Ren'gi-kō. In the eighth month, a great wind caused many gates of the imperial palace and numerous shrines to collapse. In the twelfth month, Kanetsuna was appointed Daijō-daijin (Chancellor).
In the first year of Shōryaku (990), in the first month, the Emperor came of age at eleven years old. In the fifth month, due to illness, Kanetsuna shaved his head and became a monk, taking the name Higashi-Sanjō no Daiundō. He made Michitaka regent to govern in his place. On the second day of the seventh month, Kanetsuna died at the age of sixty-two. Since he became a monk during his illness, he received no posthumous name. His mansion was converted into a temple called Hōkō-in. This marked the beginning of the practice of temple names for the Sekke (regent families).
In the second year, in the second month, Retired Emperor En'yū died at the age of thirty-two. In the ninth month, Right Minister Fujiwara no Tametaka was made Daijō-daijin.
