The remaining members of the Nitta clan, who were scattered in various places, were also tracked down by Motouji and pacified. Rather than residing in Kamakura, Motouji established his encampment at the Iruma River in Musashi Province, and because his military preparations were strict and thorough, the eastern provinces remained peaceful. In the eleventh month, Kikuchi Takemitsu, who had long been aligned with the Southern Court and resided in Higo Province, had been engaged in battles year after year with the Shōni and Ōtomo clans, and had also attacked and defeated the Tandai (Regional Deputy) placed there by Takauji.
