（栄仁の時に至って）御領地も減少し、応永二十三年（1416年）に栄仁が薨去した。貞成がその跡を継いだが、ますます（家勢は）衰微した。しかしながら後小松上皇の仰せによって、（貞成は）無品親王に宣下された。称光院の逆鱗に触れたため、貞成は剃髪して道欽（どうきん）と号した。
正長元年（1428年）、称光院が病に臥し、皇位を継ぐべき儲君（とうぐん）がいなかったため、七月十二日、世尊寺の宮内卿・行豊が伏見へ赴き、道欽に面会して、室町殿・源義宣（足利義教）の意向を伝え、彦仁が上京すべき旨を告げ知らせた。翌日、管領・畠山満家入道・道端の手の者ども四、五百人が御迎えに来て、（彦仁は）東山の若王子へ入御された。赤松左京大夫満祐が警固した。武家より二条関白・持基を通じて後小松上皇に申し入れ、彦仁を御養子に定めた。十七日、若王子より仙洞（後小松上皇の御所）へ参られた。

...reaching Yoshihito's time, the estate holdings also diminished, and in the twenty-third year of Ōei (1416), Yoshihito passed away. Sadafusa succeeded him, but the family's fortunes declined further and further. Nevertheless, by order of the Retired Emperor Go-Komatsu, (Sadafusa) was granted the proclamation of unranked prince. Having incurred the wrath of Shōkō-in, Sadafusa took the tonsure and assumed the religious name Dōkin.
In the first year of Shōchō (1428), Shōkō-in fell ill, and as there was no designated crown prince to succeed to the throne, on the twelfth day of the seventh month, Gyōtō, the Kunaiky (Minister of the Palace) of Seizonji, proceeded to Fushimi and met with Dōkin. He conveyed the wishes of Muromachi-dono, Minamoto no Gisen (Ashikaga Yoshinori), and informed him that Hikohito should come to the capital. The following day, four to five hundred retainers of the lay monk Hatakeyama Mitsuka (Mitsue), also known as Dōtan, who served as kanrei (shogunal deputy), came as an escort, and (Hikohito) entered the Nyakuōji (shrine) in the Eastern Hills. Akamatsu Sakyo no Daibu Mitsusuke provided a guard of honor. Through the warrior houses' intermediary, the Nijō Regent Mochimoto, a request was submitted to the Retired Emperor Go-Komatsu, and Hikohito was formally designated as his adopted son. On the seventeenth day, (Hikohito) proceeded from Nyakuōji to the Sentō (the Retired Emperor's palace).
