春秋之記事也必表以年而繋時繋月繋日然
後始備後之作史者皆法焉近日春斎林法眼
編輯王代一覧亦毎標年月以繋事于其下百
世事迹大要可観焉項者欹劂氏倫騰其稿妄
塡其所闕而年月溷乱譌加訓点而大害義意
只要以損其価専射其利而巳今也書林村上
氏取法眼元稿詳定亥豕表年掲月正謬補脱
以行于世購者証此求焉則庶幾知分涇渭而
一覧炳々然矣

現代語訳
『春秋』の記事は、必ず年を表示し、季節・月・日を記してはじめて完備するものである。後世に史書を著した者は皆これを手本とした。近ごろ、春斎林法眼が『王代一覧』を編輯し、やはり毎回年月を標記してその下に事柄を記したことで、百世にわたる事跡の大要を見て取ることができる。ところが先ごろ、ある版元（劂氏）が倫（？）という者にその稿本を騰写させ、みだりに欠落箇所を埋めたため、年月が混乱し、さらに誤った訓点を加えて、文章の意味を大きく損なってしまった。ただ利益を得ることのみを目的として、その価値を傷つけただけである。今、書林の村上氏が法眼の元の原稿を取り寄せて詳しく校定し、「亥豕」（文字の誤り）を正し、年を表示し月を掲げ、誤りを正して脱落を補い、世に刊行した。購入した者はこれを証拠として（正しい本を）求めるならば、泾水と渭水（清濁）を弁別し、『一覧』は燦然と輝くことであろう。

英語訳
In the *Chunqiu* (Spring and Autumn Annals), events are recorded by year, season, month, and day—only then is the record considered complete. All later historians followed this model. Recently, Shunsai Hayashi Hōgen compiled the *Ōdai Ichiran*, likewise affixing year and month notations under which events are recorded, so that the broad outline of affairs across a hundred generations can be observed. However, some time ago, a certain publisher (a block-cutter's establishment) had someone named Rin copy out the manuscript draft and carelessly filled in the missing portions, causing the year and month entries to fall into confusion; moreover, erroneous *kundoku* reading marks were added, greatly damaging the meaning of the text. This was done solely to profit from it, at the expense of its value. Now, the bookseller Murakami has obtained the Hōgen's original manuscript, carefully collated it, corrected scribal errors (lit. "boar-pig" mistakes), properly displayed the years and months, rectified errors, and supplied omissions before publishing it for the world. Those who purchase this work and consult it as a standard will, one hopes, come to distinguish the pure from the impure, and the *Ichiran* will shine brilliantly.
