『草木育種美花類』に言う：
藍菊（えぞぎく）
萬年菊 駿州
梅園が言う：
藍菊は近世蝦夷ヶ島より来るので、この名で呼ぶ。そうであるなら蝦夷菊であろう。他に蝦夷菫があり、これに類している。藍菊の名前の出典は詳しくない。追って考察したい。その他、本草類には出ていない。

The "Somoku Ikushu Bika-rui" (Classification of Beautiful Cultivated Flowers and Plants) states:
Blue chrysanthemum (ezogiku)
Ten-thousand-year chrysanthemum, from Suruga Province
Baien says:
The blue chrysanthemum comes from Ezo Island in recent times, hence the name. If so, it would be "Ezo chrysanthemum." There is also Ezo violet, which is similar to this. The source of the name "blue chrysanthemum" is unclear. I wish to investigate this further. Besides this, it does not appear in materia medica texts.
