私見：
『本草綱目』に言う。鬼督郵はここに記す者とは別種であって、単一の茎を持ち、葉はまばらで、その先端には何もなく、風によって自ら動く。ゆえに「独揺」と名づける。独活もこれと同じく名は異なれど同類のものである。その形状はウマノミツバと同類に属する。この者は「えびての鬼督郵」と称し、別の一種である。鬼督郵には数種あって、その種類は甚だ多い。

My opinion:
"Honzō Kōmoku" (Compendium of Materia Medica) states that Kidokuyu is a different species from the plant described here. It has a single stem, sparse leaves, nothing at its tip, and moves of its own accord in the wind. Therefore it is named "Dokuyō" (independently swaying). Dokukatsu (独活, Aralia cordata) shares the same name yet is a different plant of the same class. Its form and shape belong to the same category as Umano-mitsuba. This plant is called "Ebi-te no Kidokuyu" and is a separate variety. There are several varieties of Kidokuyu, and the number of types is exceedingly large.
