蓖麻子はその実に巴豆のような斑点がある。
宝穀に刺があるものは毒がある。槲とはその葉のことを
言う。唐荏（からえ）とは言うが、その実の油を今俗に唐
胡麻と呼び、印肉を練るのに用いることができる。毒があり人を害する。軽々しく
服用すべきではない。外用治療に多く用いる。その効果は甚大である。その草の形は
和漢で異なることはない。

『唐本草』に言う：
蓖麻
頌が言うには、葉は大麻に似て、実の形は牛蜱のようなので、故にこの名がある。
時珍が言うには、蓖は蜱とも作る。螕は牛の虱で、その実に
麻のような点があるので、故に蓖麻と名づける。

shows no difference between Japanese and Chinese varieties.

Song said: The leaves resemble cannabis, and the seed shape is like cattle ticks, hence the name.
Shizhen said: "Hi" can also be written as "hi." "En" are cattle lice, and the seeds have
