麝香草はその香り、微か（ちと）に麝香の香気あり、

The Musk Herb carries a faint (*chito*) fragrance of musk,
though its scent is more strongly reminiscent of fennel (*uikyō*).
It blooms in the third month, with single petals of pale crimson — and so forth.
[However,] the claim that it blooms in spring is quite at odds [with what I have observed].
When the seedlings sprout in spring, there are no flowers; and whether it blooms separately
as a spring-flowering plant is unclear.
