石蓮子とは『本草』蘇頌が曰く「その秋に至りて黒くなりて水に沈むを石蓮子と為す」と。時珍が曰く「石蓮は黒い殻を削り去るを之を蓮肉と謂う」と。
『兼名苑』に云う「蓮花已に開くるを芙蓉と曰い、未だ舒かざるを菡萏と曰う」と。
陸に生るを木芙蓉と云う。是れ国俗が芙蓉と呼ぶこと久し。
水に生るを水芙蓉と云う。是れ蓮花なり。

I previously stated:
Regarding "stone lotus seeds," the *Bencao* by Su Song states: "When they turn black in autumn and sink in water, they are called stone lotus seeds." Shi Zhen states: "Stone lotus refers to scraping away the black shell, which is called lotus meat."
The *Kenmyōen* states: "A lotus flower that has already opened is called furong, and one that has not yet bloomed is called hantan."
Those growing on land are called wood hibiscus (mukuge). This is what the common people have long called furong.
Those growing in water are called water hibiscus. These are lotus flowers.
