　　　（卵を葉の裏に）産む。五日で卵から黒い虫（幼虫）が孵り、その葉を食べる。はじめは黒いが、成長すると緑色になり、これもまた橘・柚の木を食う毛虫（蠋）と同様である。食べる草木の種類によって、蝶の斑紋の大小は一様ではない。

　　『広東新語』に曰く、その大きさは扇のようで、四枚の翅を持ち、よくライチ（茘枝）の木の上を飛ぶものを「鬼車」と名付け、また「鬼蛺蝶」ともいう。
　　『本草綱目詳説』に曰く、また羽に種々の紋様があるものがあり、その蝶は非常に大きい。日本の風俗では「アゲハノチョウ」と呼ぶ。漢名は「鬼車」、別名を「鬼蝶」という。これは蠧（木を食う虫）が変化して

At first it is black, but as it grows it turns green, in the same manner as the caterpillar (蠋) that feeds on citrus and yuzu trees.
